Paul Karason

*** Updated after GM TV coverage 21/4/08 ***

The above TV programme showed an interview with Paul Karason who contracted Argyria by using a silver extract (Colloidal Silver) & went blue.

Before I make any comments, I think Paul Karason deserves our respect for being open and honest and seems like a very nice, decent person. Also, I think GM TV have done a fairly good job in reporting this and did insist on mentioning that, apart form this condition, he was fit and healthy. They also presented the interview "As is" without making any unfounded comments.

We've known about this case since 2007 & wrote our explanation below but the interview did mention that he applied the solution topically and it seems to convey that is was that that caused the Argyria. I very much doubt that is the case but more likely because he was taking an excessively high concentration & comtaminated solution in large quantities for fourteen years. Thats why it crept up so slowly and Paul didn't notice the change in colour.

Our outer skin is continually being renewed but the lower layers are permanent why is why tatoos have to penetrate the outer skin & deposit the ink in the lower layers otherwise they would simple vanish over time. For large silver particles to get caught in the lower permanent layers, they must have come from within the body as they would be too large to pass through the outer skin in the first place.

When you read the top news article, it seems shocking and quite worrying. I have no doubt that the article is genuine and Paul Karason has contracted Argyria from the use of Colloidal Silver. Using our knowledge about Colloidal Silver, you may wish to consider the following points which hopefully explains why this happened.

We know from the content in the above links that:-

  • Paul took Colloidal Silver for 14 years to treat dermatitis.
  • He purchased a generator so he could make it himself.
  • He used a salt primer to start the reaction.
  • He still uses it but has reduced the strength.
  • He is alive, smiling & has no ill effects, apart from being blue.

From these few points above I conclude...

We know Paul made his own Colloidal Silver and added a salt primer to speed up the reaction. You should NEVER use ANY primer as undesirable by-products are also produced. Distilled water should ALWAYS be used as it doesn't require a primer. Unfortunately, distilled water, which has low conductivity, is expensive to produce and has been replaced with purfied water, whose conductivity is too low to start the reaction which is why a primer is used.

10 x 4 = 40 right ? So using that logic, a 40 ppm solution is 4 times the strength of a 10 ppm solution right ? WRONG! As the concentration increase, so does the silver particle size. Over 26 ppm the particle size is too large and the solution becomes ineffective. The size is IMPERATIVE and high concentrations will contain large amounts of these particles which will eventually become large enough to be trapped in the epidermal layers of the skin, causing Argyria. Paul most likely didn't measure the final strength which was highly excessive, as he now mentions he has reduced it. Testing the final solution is therefore extremely important, as well as ensuring the solution has stabilised by leaving it to mature for a few hours.

Not only that, Paul took this badly made, excessive concentration of "Colloidal Silver" for FOURTEEN YEARS and although he has contracted Argyria, he still wishes to use it ! There is no mention of any other condition he has contracted such as neurological, liver or kidney problems. In fact he is smiling in many of the photos which leads me to think he most likely blames himself and is embarrassed by the publicity, although I could be wrong.

Important point - Would you continue taking Paul's solution if you thought it was responsible for making you turn blue? I certainly wouldn't. I think Paul knows & accepts he made it badly but of course the media blames the Colloidal silver not Paul. I'm not very good at making cakes so when I make a duff one, is it my fault or the cakes!

Although Paul was trying to make Colloidal Silver, he was in reality making & taking a Silver Salt Sludge. The manufacturers of "Do it yourself" generators makes it sound so easy to make, which it is, IF you use the right ingredients in the right way & test it afterwards. I hope you realise that what Paul did is a rare exception which is why this has created so much news space.

We don't recommend any generators for making Colloidal Silver for several reasons and we had to design our own, which we do not sell. You cannot give the required amount of information in a booklet, you need proper training which is why we never recommend people do it themselves, although for those that have already purchased a generator, we will give as much help and advice as we can for your own safety. I.e. Only use distilled water, NEVER use salt or any additive, test each batch before and after production and allow the solution to mature. This all involves expense, which is why these incidents happen, and we did consider selling our generators but the total cost including training would exceed £5,000. A healthy knowledge of Ohms law, current controlled power supplies and access to a bullion dealer are also desirable.

Conclusion

Considering the news space and air time this has attracted, anyone would have thought he'd died ! Obviously Argyria is a condition to avoid but apart from that, Paul seems to be perfectly normal with no other ill effects. This is not an attempt to belittle the fact that he is blue but the reason this has been sensationalised is because it is extremely rare & being blue is somewhat of an oddity.

According to Silvermedicine.org, Argyria CAN be reversed & recent pictures of Stan Jones (A similar case) seem to confirm this.

Although the original news articles above were written as a "Scare "story, I conclude that it proves that badly made Colloidal Silver can be be taken in excessive doses for fourteen years with little or no other effect, other than turning blue, which may be able to be reversed.

I do not know of any conventional medication that could be abused in this manner without terminal effects.
